When I first moved to Texas, I had never heard of a bridal session. The first time a bride asked me if I offered them at first I was confused. I always photographed my brides on their wedding day for like 5 minutes. We never scheduled a full session prior to their wedding day. After my first bridal session, my whole mind frame shifted on bridal sessions. They’ve easily become a favorite of mine.
A bridal session is when the bride gets dressed up in her wedding attire for portraits 1 to 2 months before the wedding. The portraits are kept secret until the wedding day, and often times a large print is displayed at the wedding reception. However, bridal sessions serve many purposes. They allow you to twirl around like a star in your gown for a little longer. Bridal session also allow you have even more dreamy photos in your stunning gown while also taking pressure off the wedding day. They also allow you the opportunity to make sure your wedding day look is exactly how you imagined and more.
One reason every bride needs to schedule a bridal session is for an insurance policy for your wedding day look. During your bridal session, you have the opportunity to see all the elements put together — hair, makeup, jewelry, veil, shoes, bouquet, and of course, the dress. It is the perfect time to take advantage of your hair and makeup trial and floral mock-up. It allows you to make sure you are completely in LOVE with your wedding day look or gives you the opportunity to decide if you want to make any changes to your bridal look.
This was SO important during Shannon’s bridal session at Chapel Creek Ranch. During her session, she realized that the size of her bouquet, while beautiful, was too hard for her to hold. If she wouldn’t have had a bridal session scheduled, the day of her wedding, she would have been extremely uncomfortable holding her bouquet for the amount of time.
Now, there is no hard rule that your bridal session HAS to be at your wedding venue. This session is all about you. A bridal session is the perfect opportunity to receive a gorgeous set of wedding images in a different location that may not be possible on the wedding day. The sky is the limit for your bridal session. Heck, you can even have a destination bridal session! My passport is ready.
You will hear me say over and over that wedding day’s are a wonderful whirlwind that goes by way too fast. Trust me. My own wedding day went by in a flash. Bridal sessions allow us to get those dreamy bridal portraits in a low pressure setting without the time constraints of a timeline. This also allows for the extra 5-10 minutes for bridal portraits on a wedding day for more couple portraits or more time dancing the night away at your reception.
Now, this one goes hand in hand with the above. Bridal sessions give your photographer the opportunity to really scout out your venue and get to know why you chose your venue. This allows them to be able to already have locations picked out prior to your wedding day. During this Chapel Creek Ranch bridal session, I was able to take a look at where the sun was going to be at certain parts of the day and able to come up with a game plan prior to the wedding day.
