There is a certain kind of exhale that happens when you arrive at the right venue.
You pull off the highway onto a winding farm road. The city noise disappears. Open sky stretches in every direction. And then — around a gentle curve — a stunning whitewashed barn comes into view, set against acres of rolling North Texas land, and something in your chest quietly says: this is it.
That is The Nest at Ruth Farms.
As a Dallas-Fort Worth wedding photographer and filmmaker, I have had the privilege of documenting love stories at some of the most beautiful venues across Texas and beyond. The Nest at Ruth Farms holds a special place in that list — not just because it is visually stunning, but because every single corner of this property was built with intention. And, it photographs like a dream.
If you are considering The Nest for your wedding, this guide is everything I wish every couple knew before booking. I am sharing the spaces, the details, the planning tips, and the real-wedding moments that make this venue extraordinary — as someone who has actually been there, camera in hand, watching the magic happen.

The Nest at Ruth Farms opened in June 2017 in the small town of Ponder, Texas. From the very beginning, it was never just a business. It was, as the owners describe it, a calling.
Chris and LaWanna — the husband-and-wife team behind The Nest — purchased land in Ponder with no specific plan. But a vision took shape, and a wedding venue was born. LaWanna is an award-winning interior designer, which explains immediately why every space at The Nest feels considered rather than constructed. Nothing here is accidental. Every detail — every chandelier, every pew, every painted surface — was chosen by someone who truly understands the relationship between beauty and atmosphere.
What strikes me every time I arrive at The Nest is the warmth of the people behind it. This is a family-owned property, and it shows. Couples who marry here are not transactions — they are stories the owners genuinely want to witness. One of the most beloved details on the property is the back of the barn doors, where couples who have married at The Nest leave their signatures. Those doors hold years of love. It is quietly extraordinary.
The Nest spans 37 acres of land. It is located at 3930 Bud Williams Road in Ponder, Texas — just 45 minutes from the heart of Dallas and 15 minutes from Denton. For DFW couples who want a venue that feels like an escape without requiring a long drive for guests, this location is genuinely ideal.
One of the most compelling things about The Nest at Ruth Farms is how complete the property feels. Let me walk you through each space — and share what I love about each one as your photographer.
The Grand Hall is the crown jewel of The Nest. This 8,000-square-foot reception space is housed inside the main barn, and it is nothing short of breathtaking.
Step inside and your eye travels immediately upward — toward 44-foot ceilings and custom brass chandeliers that cast the room in warm, golden light. White shiplap walls run the full height of the space. Antique mercury glass French doors mark the entry. The overall effect is elegant, romantic, and genuinely grand — without ever feeling cold or corporate.
As a photographer, I need to tell you something important about this room: the light in here is a gift. Even on overcast days, the natural light that filters through the windows is soft and flattering and beautiful. I have never had to fight this room for a good photograph. And that matters enormously for your images.
The Grand Hall accommodates up to 300 guests and works beautifully for virtually every aesthetic — from soft and romantic neutrals to rich, moody palettes to bold, colorful celebrations. It is a true blank canvas, elevated by architecture that does half the design work for you.
The Nest Chapel, completed in September 2022, is one of the most romantic ceremony spaces in North Texas.
Entering the chapel, you are greeted by a marble tile entry that flows into a ceremony space filled with natural light. Crystal chandeliers hang from above. A mercury glass mirrored wall anchors the front of the space, reflecting light and guests and everything beautiful happening in between. Custom wooden pews line the aisle — not rental chairs, but built pews that belong to this space and give it a permanence that ceremony photographs will carry forever.
The chapel seats up to 250 guests and includes its own restrooms, which is a thoughtful logistical detail that makes guest flow on wedding day significantly smoother.
The groom’s suite is attached to the chapel — intentionally designed this way so the wedding party can transition seamlessly to the ceremony without risking an accidental sighting of the bride. These are the details that make a well-planned venue feel effortless on the actual day.
Photographer’s tip: The aisle in the chapel is generously wide — one of the few ceremony spaces where your photographer and videographer can capture the ceremony simultaneously without crowding each other or the guests.

For couples who want to exchange vows under open Texas sky, the outdoor ceremony garden is set alongside a scenic pond with woodsy views beyond the water. This space accommodates up to 300 guests — slightly more than the chapel — and features a built-in pergola that serves as your ceremony backdrop.
One detail worth mentioning: the aisle is paved. This is not a minor thing. Walking down a paved path means no heels sinking into grass, no unsteady steps, no fumbling with your dress in front of 200 people. You can focus entirely on the moment — and so can I.
The surrounding landscape at golden hour is extraordinary. The Ponder Valley stretches out beyond the pond, and when the late afternoon light hits those rolling fields, the color and warmth and depth of those photographs is something that genuinely cannot be replicated. It’s just North Texas doing what it does best.
Photographer’s tip: If you are considering an outdoor ceremony, plan for golden hour portraits on the back edge of the property. The views during golden hour are among the most stunning portrait backdrops I have ever worked with.
The back patio is where cocktail hour lives at The Nest — and it is one of those spaces that guests consistently never want to leave.
Café lights overhead. Yard games on the lawn. The back patio sits adjacent to the Grand Hall and opens onto a view of the Ponder Valley that perfectly frames the Texas sunset. It is the kind of space where guests relax into the evening, where conversations happen that would not happen inside, where the celebration shifts from ceremony into something warmer and more intimate.

The bridal suite at The Nest is located on the lower level of the Grand Hall, and it is one of the best getting-ready spaces I have worked in across DFW.
It is spacious — accommodating a wedding party of up to fifteen — and flooded with natural light through large windows that face the property. Vanity stations are set up for hair and makeup. There is abundant seating. The aesthetic is white and elegant and soft, which creates a naturally beautiful backdrop for getting-ready photography without requiring a single additional decoration.
One detail I particularly love: the bathroom is not visible in the mirrors, which means your belongings can be tucked away in there during photography. The result is clean, uncluttered images that feel intentional and editorial without any extra effort.

The groom’s suite at The Nest is genuinely one of the nicest I have encountered at any venue in North Texas — and that is a meaningful distinction, because the groom’s suite is often an afterthought.
Not here. This space is comfortable, well-lit, and designed with the same care as the rest of the property. Leather seating, flat-screen TVs, natural light, and a mini fridge for pre-ceremony refreshments. Capacity is eight guests. And because it is attached to the back of the chapel, the groomsmen can transition directly into their ceremony processional without navigating the main property — which eliminates one of the most logistically chaotic moments of a wedding morning.

Beyond the physical spaces, there are several details about The Nest at Ruth Farms that I always share with couples who are considering it.
The in-house rental collection is one of the most valuable things this venue offers. The Nest has its own curated collection of furniture and décor — custom wood farm tables, chairs, and accent pieces — available exclusively to couples booked here. This eliminates significant rental costs and ensures that the design elements in the space were chosen specifically for it.
The preferred vendor relationships are exceptional. The Nest works with an established network of trusted vendors who know the property well. Mothers and Daughters Design House — the design team behind Valerie and Justin’s stunning neutral rose wedding here — offers an exclusive all-inclusive planning and design collection for Nest couples. For couples who want truly seamless execution, this partnership is worth knowing about.
The sound system is built in throughout the venue, including the chapel. This matters more than most couples realize during planning — it affects ceremony audio, reception clarity, and the overall quality of your wedding film.
The signature barn doors. On the back side of the barn, couples who have married at The Nest leave their signatures. It is one of those quiet, meaningful details that you will notice on your venue tour and never forget.
To see what a wedding at The Nest actually looks and feels like, I want to share one of my favorite love stories from this property.
Valerie and Justin chose The Nest for its timeless elegance — and they filled it with neutral and brown tones, warm candlelight, and lush roses that Mothers and Daughters Design House executed flawlessly. The Grand Hall felt rich and romantic. Florals and candles were everywhere and stunning.
But the moment I will never forget? Valerie walking herself down the aisle toward Justin waiting at the altar. And beside Justin, serving as their officiant: her father.

Want to see another side of The Nest? Brooke and Christopher filled the Grand Hall with a pastel garden of lavender, blush, and peach — complete with handmade light blue signage the groom crafted himself. It is one of the most whimsical celebrations we have ever documented here. Read Brooke + Christopher’s full wedding story.

The Nest is a stunning venue — but like every venue, it is the right fit for some couples and not others. Here is my honest perspective as someone who has worked here.

The Nest is located in Ponder, Texas — 45 minutes from Dallas. It is not a downtown venue. For couples whose guests are primarily coming from the city, plan hotel blocks early. The Nest’s website includes a helpful hotel list nearby, and I always recommend sharing this with guests well in advance of the wedding weekend.
Also note that the outdoor ceremony space is beautiful in the right season — but Texas summers are unforgiving. If you are planning a summer outdoor ceremony, have a heat plan and communicate it clearly to guests.
